Steps to Ethical Leadership

Question: Discuss about the Steps to Ethical Leadership. Answer: Introduction to Leadership "Leadership" is such a nature of a specific person that isolates him/her from the accessible gathering, making him/her a pro-active among others comparatively and extraordinary person that adds to the prosperity of that particular gathering. Leadership is also all about installing the limit for significance in individuals and practices of an association, and decoupling it from the identity of the pioneer(Green, 2014). There are different types of leaders around this world, having different types of leadership traits and styles, every leader has their own approach so as to how to present themselves in front of their followers so that they can bring the best out of them, which will contribute to their specific organization or society accordingly. Some might be strict in nature giving their followers a disciplined and punctual image of themselves, or some leaders might even be very cool, outgoing and easy to approach in nature with their followers, in order to make them comfortable and easily approachable. Whatever the style is, if that specific set of leadership structure is bring prosper to their organization or some kind of project or work, along with his/ her followers being happy about their leader then I consider that to be a very successful leadership structure, but note that the leadership style must be ethical for the group, for himself and for the organization as a whole(Brooks, 2013). There are many people who have attempted to be the leader of a specific work or a project r may be even an organization, but they have failed immensely, and the reason why? Basically, they didnt have the right idea or concept of what leadership actually is. Leadership is the capacity to comprehend and use your characteristic abilities, as well as viably influence the regular qualities of your group to fulfill the mission(Helmrich, 2016). Its about engaging with your team and making them feel like they are worth something and motivating them with your capability of leading(Oehler, et al., 2014), by listening to their wants and needs and considering them in order to help them feel comfortable and be motivated accordingly rather than trying to control the whole team, and direct them only in terms of your point of view, not listening to a single word or feedback of them and just doing it on your own way. Thats the one thing that most of the unsuccessful leaders forget to do. There is a huge difference between leaders and managers(Linfield, 2013). There is actually a list of people, who have been voted as the most unsuccessful leaders till date for their money motivated actions, stupidity actions, and unethical actions, they are mentioned below: Thakshin Shinawatra Yingluck Shinawatra Adolf Hitler Hun Sen Kim Jong Il Kim Jong Un Saddam Hussain Pol Pot Somachai Wonsawatt Joseph Stalin (Tens, 2016) These, people are just some of the people who misjudged the idea of leadership and, became so much unsuccessful on being a leader that most of the people around the world has nothing but hatred for them. Every country, society, or an organization needs a leader. Without a leader that specific organizations work will get complicated, complex and they will eventually be lost with no definite motive or so(LeadershipCentral, n.d.). A leader provides a certain and objective to the organization to attain some specific goal successfully. Especially in an organization, leader plays a huge role in properly guiding and directing the whole team into gaining the goals and objectives effectively and efficiently. Some of the important role of a leader in a working environment are: Providing guidance Building Morale Fostering creativity Promoting values(Joseph, n.d.) Gail Kelly Gail Kelly is a very successful business woman, who has been able to be recognized as one of the most influential leaders. She is an Australian businesswoman who was born in South Africa. She was the previous (CEO) of Westpac, venturing down from the part on 1 February 2015. She was supplanted by Brian Hartzer, beforehand Westpac's monetary administrations boss executive. In 2002, she turned into the very first female CEO of a noteworthy Australian bank, starting 2005, was the most generously compensated lady in an Australian enterprise. She took on the position of CEO at Westpac in 2008(TheAge, 2005). As of 2014, she is recorded as the 56th most powerful lady on the planet by Forbes. However, this success was not always there, she had to go through many ups and downs in her life to get to where she is now. She first started teaching at South Africas government school, but had very less passion towards it. She taught, but only for the sake of working, this wasnt her piece of cake as she had no passion or some kind of drive to keep her going. Her bank journey started from Nedcor bank where she started only with an acceleration training programme, then she was the head of human resource, and then went on to gain various different post titles in this bank. She then moved to Sydney, and immediately applied to major banks there and got positioned at a senior post at a Commonwealth bank, due to the commendable job at this bank she then got appointed as the CEO of St George Bank. Her work brought a noticeable amount of profitability. With the award for best Financial Services Executive in 2003 and 2004 she got pay rise along with indefinite extension of contract. Then after some time of on and off controversy about her returning to Common-Wealth bank after the retirement of CEO David Murray AO , she stated that she would be faithful to St. George as there were lots of commitment that she made with them. But eventually in 2008 of August 17th she resigned from St. George to take over the CEO position of Westpac. When she first joined this bank it was at the edge of financial crisis, this company needed much nurturing and care in order for it to be successful in the market. She launched a five year program to reshape its technology(Review, 2014). She also focused on provision of excellent customer service Money profit expanded to $7.6 billion in 2013-14 from $3.1 billion in 2006-07, mirroring the solid development of the considerable number of majors with the exception of National Australia, yet at the same time beating her adversaries.(Review, 2014). After all her contribution, Kelly decided to resign on 13 November 2014 from Westpac. Currently she is hugely involved for the betterment of the society, hugely focusing on women empowerment. Presently, she targets for half of the bank's top administrators to be ladies by 2017. Through, this short biography of the great Gail Kelly, we already can get a gist that she is a very intelligent human being with great leadership skills. The amount of improvements and profitability that Gail Kelly brought into various fields that she has laid her hands on, are seriously outstanding, and this is a huge quality or trait that an individual with good leadership instinct has. A leader is somebody, who shows others how its done and has the trustworthiness to make the best decision notwithstanding when it is not prominent. A decent leader has constructive impact over others, rousing them to improve as a man and case for others to display their life against, too. And this is who Gail Kelly was, she was a huge influencer, and a great leader overall. Evaluating and analyzing the personality trait of Gail Kelly When an individuals intellectual processing, evaluating and analyzing capacity is very impressive, then that person can be considered as and intelligent individual. However, as I mentioned before, this factor consists of various controversies of people discussing about weather is this intelligence inherited form birth or is it something that can be later nurtured or learnt from training or our surroundings. This, controversy seems to be limitless as there are various possibilities to it. No matter what the ultimate conclusion is, the one fact that is sure is that, the successful leaders or personalities tend to be on the more intelligent side rather than the less intelligent one, like Gail Kelly herself. There are various interrelationships between intelligence and leadership(Judge, et al., 2004). And to break this down even further, intelligence and leadership has different theories which support its content. Lets first have a look at these three theories and then correlate with Gail Kelly. The 3 theories are: The triarchic theory of intelligence: This theory concentrated on pioneer's critical thinking capacities. It clarifies the procedure of a pioneer in 'taking care of complex mental issues, for example, how data is consolidated', its blend, and 'what suppositions and blunders are made' to come up with new corrective arrangements. There are further 3 more core intelligence included in this theory they are: Analytic Intelligence: It is ability of a leader to read and then decode the environment happenings intellectually. They are very good at connecting the issues even when they are irrelevant to one another. Practical Intelligence: This is all about being practical in the presented situations and conditions. The leader will have the capacity on how to handle different scenarios like a pro. Creative intelligence: Creative intelligence is all about how much of innovative content can a leader produce in order to bring in new change or evolution to that certain area. Cognitive Resources Theory (CRT): This theory states that when there is high or low impact stressful environment people tend to act differently on those situations. And specifically leaders with high experience and high intelligence will act efficiently under those situations i.e. under massive or low pressure. Emotional Intelligence (EQ): This focuses on the emotion or sentiments aspect of the leaders and how they tend to impact the followers of the leaders. There an ability model under this theory that projects 4 abilities they are: perceiving emotions, managing emotions, using emotions, and understanding emotions. There is another five factor model or mixed model that compliments this model which includes: Self s awareness/intrapersonal skills Self s regulation/adaptability Motivation Empathy Social/interpersonal skills Stress management. After briefing about all these mentioned attributes, we can now relate and compare these attribute with Gail Kelly. Gail Kelly had an experience of working under huge banks, where she proved that her critical thinking capacity was very good. As mentioned before, when she first came to work for Westpac the company was facing a huge financial crisis and it definitely needed some guidance in order to get back on its game. And later it actually did because of major contribution of Kelly. The organization gradually started to bring more profit, because of Kellys well planned plans for the organization which she implemented efficiently as she was really aware about the situations and she knew the exact right time to take her plans into actions(Verrender, 2014). This proves that Kelly had a very good analytical ability as she was correctly able to analyze the problems of the organization properly. She even proved that she had the abundant amount of creative intelligence as she derived vario us successful agendas and plans to improve the bad situation of the organization and finally she proved that she also had a practical ability as she immediately reenacted on those problem areas by implementing the planned out strategies for the company. During all of these process it is definite that Gail was under a massive pressure, on top of that she is a mother of 4 children. By balancing personal life and her work life under that huge pressure but no matter the pressure she took all these works responsibly and managed it really efficiently, which relates to the CRT. She set her name by being the first woman to be a CEO of Australias major banks, she had a huge responsibility as a role model to all the working women of Australia. Keeping this thing in her mind she undertook woman empowerment really seriously and worked hard to aware people about it and also mane a gender benchmark to accomplish, to make 40% of workers in benchmark all woman. She is still giving her best to contribute to the woman empowerment. She also focused on, how the customers of their organization can be catered with a good value. She has also stated in an interview that the priorities of a business person always must be their family, they should not compromise anything in this world for their familys happiness. Which clearly states her emotional stability and how it motivates the society to good, all of her followers have a positive impact about what she does and say which motivates them to do good to the society and maintain their priorities as well. Conclusion After all these evaluations and comparisons, we can conclude by stating that Gail Kelly was an individual with a really good and impressive leadership qualities. She had every qualities that a good leader need no have i.e. being optimistic, being bold, being passionate about your work, being generous, choosing the right team to work with, and having a futuristic vision(Herald, 2014). Whatever values and priorities that she carried till date were all ethical and for good reasons, so in my opinion if I were on her shoes, I would not do anything differently because, as a leader everything that you do must be for a good motive and must be for an ethical purpose, which in fact Kelly followed very whole heartedly. So, I would also follow her footsteps, to accomplish whatever she has accomplished till date. All in all Gail Kelly was an amazing role model and a great leader comprising of great leadership capabilities and very surely she will forever be remembered as a champion of the corporate world(ABC.net, 2014). US Military Colt M1911 Pistol

US Military Colt M1911 Pistol Colt M1911 Specifications: Cartridge: .45 ACPCapacity: 7 round detachable box magazineMuzzle Velocity: 835 ft./sec.Weight: approx. 2.44 lbs.Length: 8.25 in.Barrel Length: 5.03 in.Action: Short Recoil Operation Colt M911 Design Development In the 1890s, the US Army began searching for an effective semi-automatic pistol to replace the revolvers that were then in service. This culminated in a series of tests in 1899-1900 in which examples from Mauser, Colt, and Steyr Mannlicher were examined. As a result of these tests, the US Army purchased 1,000 Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) Luger pistols which fired a 7.56 mm cartridge. While the mechanics of these pistols were satisfactory, the US Army (and other users) found that the 7.56 mm cartridge lacked sufficient stopping power in the field. A similar complaint was lodged by US troops battling the Philippine Insurrection. Equipped with M1892 Colt revolvers, they found that its .38 cal. round was insufficient to bring down a charging enemy, especially in the close confines of jungle warfare. To temporarily rectify the situation, older .45 cal. M1873 Colt revolvers were sent to the Philippines. The heavier round quickly proved move effective. This along with the results of the 1904 Thompson-LeGarde tests led planners to conclude that a new pistol should, at minimum, fire a .45 cal. cartridge. Seeking a new .45 cal. design, the Chief of Ordnance, Brigadier General William Crozier, ordered a new series of tests. Colt, Bergmann, Webley, DWM, Savage Arms Company, Knoble, and White-Merril all submitted designs. After preliminary testing, the models from Colt, DWM, and Savage were approved for the next round. While Colt and Savage submitted improved designs, DWM elected to withdraw from the competition. Between 1907 and 1911, extensive field testing took place using both the Savage and Colt designs. Constantly improved as the process moved forward, John Brownings Colt design ultimately won the competition. M1911 Design The action of Brownings M1911 design is recoil operation. As combustion gases drive the bullet down the barrel, they also exert a reverse motion on the slide and barrel pushing them backwards. This motion ultimately leads to an extractor expelling the spent casing before a spring reverses the direction and loads a new round from the magazine. As part of the design process, the US Army directed that the new pistol possess both grip and manual safeties. Operational History Dubbed the Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 by the US Army, the new pistol entered service in 1911. Assessing the M1911, the US Navy and Marine Corps accepted it for use two years later. The M1911 saw extensive use with American forces during World War I and performed well. As wartime needs exceeded Colts production capabilities, an additional manufacturing line was established at the Springfield Armory. In the wake of the conflict, the US Army began assessing the M1911s performance. This led to several minor modifications and the introduction of the M1911A1 in 1924. Among the changes to Brownings original design were a wider front site, shorter trigger, an extended grip safety spur, and a simplified design on the grips. Production of the M1911 accelerated during the 1930s as tensions around the globe heightened. As a result, the type was the principal sidearm of US forces in World War II. During the conflict, approximately 1.9 million M1911s were produced by several companies including Colt, Remington Rand, and Singer. The US Army obtained so many M1911s that it did not purchase new pistols for several years after the war. A highly successful design, the M1911 remained in use with US forces during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In the late 1970s, the US military came under increasing pressure from Congress to standardize its pistol designs and find a weapon that could utilize the NATO-standard 9mm Parabellum pistol cartridge. A variety of testing programs moved forward in the early 1980s which resulted in the selection of the Beretta 92S as the M1911s replacement. Despite this change, the M1911 saw use in the 1991 Gulf War with a variety of specialized units. The M1911 has also remained popular with US Special Forces units which have carried variants during the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. As a result of their use of the weapon, the Army Marksman Unit began experimenting with improving the M1911 in 2004. Designated the M1911-A2 project, they produced several variants for Special Forces use. The M1911 has been produced under license in other countries and is currently in use with numerous militaries around the world. The weapon is also popular with sportsmen and competitive shooters. In addition, the M1911 and its derivatives are in use with law enforcement agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigations Hostage Rescue Team, numerous local S.W.A.T. units, and many local police forces. French Wine Regions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

French Wine Regions - Essay Example In fact, almost every region of France can boast of commercial wine production, and only five regions on the north coast of the country are not engaged in wine production. Among the most famous regions of wine growing in France are the following ones: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhone Valley, the Loire Valley, Alsace etc. The Bordeaux region of Aquitaine is among the most famous regions of wine production not only in France but in the entire world as well. The center of the region is the Atlantic port city of Bordeaux. This region is regarded as the heart of red wine production in the country: more than 60 appellations are grown on its territory. Basically, such grapes as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon are used in the production of red wine. In addition to this, white wine, both dry and sweet, is also produced in the region (Marnie Old and Old Wines LLC, 2005). In Bordeaux, there are two sub-regions of red wine production; they are referred to as â€Å"Right Bank† and â€Å"Left Bank†. The right bank has soil that perfectly suits the early-ripening Merlot grape because of the high content of clay in it. The left bank’s soil rich in gravel is more suitable for Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the main rules of wine production in the region of Bordeaux is varieties blendi ng. Originally, varieties were blended to avoid bad harvests. Today, winemakers also balance flavors of different grapes in one appellation (Marnie Old and Old Wines LLC, 2005). The Burgundy region is situated in the eastern part of France. This region is famous for its both red and white wines. The major grape varieties grown on the territory of Burgundy are Chardonnay (for white Burgundy wines), Pinot Noir (for red Burgundy wines), and Gamay (for Beaujolais). Unlike Bordeaux, Burgundy wines are not the product of varieties blending.

Fast Food and Obsesity Essay Example for Free

Fast Food and Obsesity Essay Nowadays, fast food has become a way of life. Both children and adults like to eat fast food. However, fast food is unhealthy. It causes many diseases, like obesity. Obesity is increasing among both children and adult. This essay will describe the relation between fast food and obesity. And it will also focus on research that contributes to the understanding of link between obesity and disease risk during childhood and adolescence. This essay will be divided into three parts. Firstly, I will discuss the origin of fast food and the reasons why people like eating fast food. What is more, the essay will look at the definition of obesity and why obesity has taken place. Finally, it is also important to note that there are many solutions from kinds of aspects to preventing obesity. Fast food originated in America and people like fast food due to several reasons. Fast food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered to be fast food, also it can be take-away. The term fast food was recognized in a dictionary by Merriam–Webster in 1951. So fast food has a long history. And there are many types of fast food restaurants. For instance, KFC, McDonald’s and so on. Then, there are many reasons why people enjoy eating fast food. Firstly, with its convenient being a leading factor. Sometimes we just need to take something to eat because of busy schedules. I think this is becoming a main reason why people eat fast food regularly. Secondly, fast food is so cheap compared with other restaurants indeed. It is the best choice for those not looking to spend much money. Furthermore, fast food tastes so delicious because usually packed with fats and sugar. So this is why fast food is unhealthy. In addition to, People can get it easily due to fast food restaurants at everywhere. Finally, many people can’t cook. Actually, fast food has many advantages, but there are many disadvantages for our health. Fast food is widely accepted because it is convenient, inexpensive and easy, but quick and simple do not always worth nutritious and healthy. It is referred to as a junk food for a reason; it offers few of the nutrients needed for healthy. Fast food does not just define take-away food, many kinds of microwave meals and some snacks are a part of fast food. Then all of this can increase the rate of obesity. Obesity has taken place due to several reasons and fast food is a major factor. â€Å"The medical term for obesity is extreme overweight conditions. † (Wikipedia) The condition of obesity is very easy to diagnose as the bulge of fat can be seen clearly on the body. And there are many factors to lead obesity. Causes of obesity are multifactor and oversimplified; reasons for increasing trend in obesity are complex and varied. It divided into three parts. Firstly, â€Å"behavioural causes of obesity are linked to an increased consumption of high calorie foods and a decrease in physical activity. Like fast food, it contains many sweet and fatty; and these are the biggest crime when it comes to dangerous calories. Secondly, they are physiological and genetic factors. â€Å"Physiological controls include appetite, hunger, satiation and satiety, each of which has a different regulatory mechanism. These controls involve highly complex interactions between neural and hormonal regulatory systems, which are often influenced by social and environmental factors. † It leads to obesity as physiological factor. Finally, it is the age changing. Most adults gradually increase their weight from early 20s up to their 50s. † Their ability of food intake is decrease with aging. Then obesity will be taken place. Obesity rates are increasing worldwide, among both children and adults. One important contributor to this epidemic is the increasing worldwide consumption of fast food. In particular, the rate of children is obvious. Over the past 20 years the percentages of overweight children aged 6-11 years increased from 5% to 16% in United States. It is risk for children. The government should pay attention to it. Because obesity has been linked to a myriad of other health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and cancer, and has become an enormous strain on the health care system. Then, this must be make a sensation and should take action. Face this situation that the rate of obesity has increase. We should make some measures to prevent obesity. There are many solutions to preventing obesity. First of all, we need to eat more healthy organic food, not fast food and â€Å"promote sustainable food and farming practices†. Organic food is good for our health. The second place; we should to provide some education. It includes physical, cooking, nutrition and gardening lessons. Next, we should do exercise every day. For instance, running, swimming and take a walk. It makes us keeping fit. What is more, parents should teach their child not eat too much meat or sugar at childhood instead of some fruit or vegetables. And for adults, they should cook at home as soon as possible. In addition to, the advertisement is a key point. The government should forbid too much advertisement about fast food or junk food on TV, instead of some health advertisements. Overall, the essay has proven that here is some relation between fast food and obesity. Fast food has a long history and it has advantages. But the disadvantages are also evident. What is more, there are all kinds of factors that lead to obesity. However, one of the main factors that contribute to obesity is fast food. Fast food is a killer. Studies suggest that fast food significantly increases the risk of obesity. The fast food is unhealthy for our bodies. Furthermore, we should take some solutions to prevent obesity. If you really want to eat, you should do excise for keeping fit. I strongly believe that we should not eat too much fast food if we want to keep healthy.

The Changing Mattress Business Essay -- Economy, Economic Downturn

Changes in the global environment, in conjunction with the deepest and most prolonged economic downturn since the Great Depression, have started a sea change in the domestic mattress industry. The end of conspicuous consumption for big-ticket items such as mattresses and foundations, is the result of declining new home sales, tightening of consumer credit, the consumer confidence index still well below pre-recessionary levels (Wang, 2010), and unemployment hovering near 10%. In order to remain viable in rapidly changing global and task environments, mattress manufacturers will need to lower material and manufacturing costs, develop products that differentiate them from their competitors, or develop new channels of distribution for their products. Domestic production of mattresses and foundations in 2010 was slightly below 6 billion dollars and almost 16% less than the peak mattress production of 2007 (International Sleep Products Association, 2010). Many consumers have lost confidence in the economic state of the country and therefore have begun to believe that, as Newt Gingrich said recently, "if you can’t afford to buy a house, don’t buy it" (Gingrich, 2010). The economic downturn has signaled the end of conspicuous consumption, defined as â€Å"the act or practice of spending money on expensive things that are not necessary in order to impress other people† (Merrian-Webster's Leaner's Dictionary, 2010). Identify functional and dysfunctional control systems within your own organization I am currently a Senior Vice-President of Sales for King Koil Licensing (â€Å"King Koil†). The company licenses mattress-manufacturing facilities, called licensees, both domestically and internationally, to produce the brands that King Koil owns. The l... ...ving the wherewithal to maintain our lifestyle will be difficult to achieve if this strategy fails. From a professional standpoint, I have had a certain level of success as a retail executive for the past 37 years, and have built a reputation that I do not want sullied through an association with a company that fails. The mattress industry in America has contracted as consumers have suffered through these difficult economic times and will continue to face more changes in the global environment and changes in the task environment. The enterprises that remain stuck in the middle, stick to the â€Å"old ways†, react to these changes too late will likely go the way of Two Guys, Kobackers, Woolworth’s, Montgomery Ward, Circuit City, Studebaker, and too many other businesses that failed to move their organizations through the economic mine fields that confronted them.

They are classified into two different classifications. There is fat soluble which are A, D, E and K. The other classification is water soluble vitamins, which is vitamin C and B. Vitamin C and B are also known as complex group vitamins. Vitamins are crucial for the human body to properly function. Foods we eat have different kinds of vitamins, some may have one and some many have multiple vitamins.Watching what you eat will ensure the body is getting plenty of vitamins for your body to function properly. Our body does not make the vitamins we need to sustain life; therefore we need vitamins to maintain proper function of the body system. Vitamins we consume from the foods we eat are one part of a healthy diet. Vitamins help our body function like cell growth, energ y metabolism, immune system, nervous system, circulatory system and reproduction system. Vitamins help fight off infections and as we get older the risk for infections increase. Vitamins are just as important to babies as it is the elderly.Everyone will benefit and have a healthy diet if vitamins are crucial in their diet. The fat soluble vitamins are A, D, E and K. Vitamin A is a crucial vitamin because it helps the eyes and skin to be healthy. Vitamin A is important because it helps teeth and bones to be strong. Vitamin A is also beneficial to the bodies reproductive and immune systems. There are some ideal sources of vitamin A for a healthy diet. They are carrots, sweet potato, tomatoes, green beans, bell peppers, and spinach. The deficiency of Vitamin A could cause diarrhea, intestinal infections, inflammation of the eyes and keratinization of skin and eyes.An individual who consumes too much Vitamin A could cause, blurred vision, enlargement of liver and spleen, loss of hair, s kin changes, and increased pressure of skull. Vitamin D vitamins help regulate the use of phosphorous for our body. According to Nutrition, â€Å"Active vitamin D is needed to maintain normal blood levels of the minerals calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is important for bone health, but it is also needed for proper functioning of nerves, muscles, glands, and other tissues† (Grosvenor & Smolin, 2006). Vitamin D can be made in the body and can be absorbed through the skin by sun exposure. When the body has low levels of Vitamin D, the body stores inactive Vitamin D and activategbs it through the liver and kidneys. Vitamin D deficiency in children will cause rickets which is smaller rib cages and bowed legs. Deficiency in adults is Osteomalacia, which causes bone loss. When an individual consumes an excessive amount of Vitamin D, they can have high amounts of calcium in the blood and urine. It also could cause heart problems. Some excellent sources of Vitamin D are salmon, eggs, m ilk, tuna, and cod liver oil.Vitamin E maintains the nerves and the reproductive system to help keep them healthy. The benefit of Vitamin E is it promotes healthy skin. There are excellent sources of Vitamin E found in food, they are; sunflower seeds, almonds, turnip greens and mustard greens. Deficiency of Vitamin D could cause anemia in low birth weight babies. This would happen if starvation was a cause though. Overconsumption of this vitamin causes massive nausea and digestive track conditions. â€Å"Vitamin K is an essential vitamin that is needed by the body for blood clotting and other important process. (Leopold, 2010) The benefits of vitamin K are used in management of extreme bleeding. Too much bleeding can occur from a deficiency of vitamin K mainly with the use of blood thinning agents. Some symptoms related to the deficiency of vitamin K are; nose bleeds, broken blood vessels, blood in urine and bleeding gums. Some problems with vitamin K when excessively taken is upse t stomach and really high doses the person may have an allergic reaction. Excellent sources for Vitamin K are, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, celery, tomatoes and spinach.Water-soluble vitamins are B-complex and Vitamin C. These two vitamins are not stored in the body and will need to be replaced every day. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and therefor they are eliminated in urine. B-complex groups have eight water-soluble vitamins which are; niacin, folate, biotin, pantothenic acid, thiamin and riboflavin. The sources of the vitamins are found in, grains, vegetables, meats, eggs, milk and dairy. B-complex vitamins help the body get energy from the food we eat. It also helps aid in protein metabolism, and helps many body functions.Citrus fruits like oranges are ideal sources for Vitamin C. Vitamin C help maintain blood vessels, bones and teeth. Vitamin C gives us protection again immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease and prevents skin wrinkling. In some countries b eriberi, pellagra and pernicious are three common B-vitamin deficiencies. Deficiency to Vitamin C could cause bleeding gums, sore joints, increased infections and easily bruised.Toxicity among the two vitamins can cause diarrhea, bloating, kidney stones, abnormal liver function and irritability. In some cases Vitamin C has the power to diminish the threat of different types of cancer, heart disease and cataracts. Vitamin C serves as an antioxidant as it can fight off infections they may cause harm to our bodies. References Leopold, D. C. (2010, December). Vitamin and Lifestyle Guide. Leaders: Born and Made Essay

A large amount of research is carried out around ‘are leaders born or made?’ studies have shown that genetics and the environment both play a part in leadership development. However, the relative contribution of each is subject to much scientific debate. For example, intelligence plays a part in leadership development, as does emotional intelligence. Certain personality traits such as self-confidence, dominance and extroversion also play an important role. The family often influences us, as does the national and organisational culture. some individuals may have the potential to lead, but were never given the opportunity. And, some believe they cannot lead, when they could have. However, most leaders would no doubt agree with the words of the American football coach Vince Lombardi who said, â€Å"Contrary to the opinion of many, leaders are not born. Leaders are made, and they are made by effort and hard work.† Vince Lombardi once stated, â€Å"Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.† For centuries, this has been a debate one that continues into society today. There are many opinions on this topic, but one thing is certain; all leaders are born, effective leaders are made. Every leader must be born with certain characteristics that distinguish them above their peers. One such characteristic is intelligence. Effective leaders aren’t necessarily the smartest people, but they have to be smart enough to do the job they’re assigned. Another trait is the ability to motivate others and themselves to achieve results, and to make decisions. These essential traits, ones that any leader must possess, are the foundation for the making of an effective leader. Not a single leader was ever born with all the necessary skills to be an effective leader. Leadership is an apprentice trade, and most leaders learn more than 80% on the job. To become effective  leaders must do one important thing; take responsibility and seek self-improvement. The most successful leaders seek out training that provides them an opportunity to expand their leadership abilities. Goldsmith and Morgan studied the progress of over 88,000 managers that had attended leadership development training. Those that returned from the training, talked about what they had learned, and did deliberate work to apply their learning were judged as becoming more effective leaders. Those that did not showed no improvement.() This goes to prove that leaders are born, effective leaders are made. Leaders must always continue to grow, and an effective leader makes learning a lifelong activity. Effective leaders continually seek out opportunities that will allow them to develop new skills that may be utilized in other areas. Effective leaders also seek out projects or jobs that draw attention to their leadership skills. Performance alone will not get you to the top in your career. An effective leader makes themselves visible to those that make decisions, promotions, a nd assignments. Leaders become more effective when they seek new skills, and make themselves stand out to higher leaders. Providing yet even more evidence that leaders are born, effective leaders are made. Though there is no true means to tell if leaders are born or made, but there are two things evident. First, all people are born, so in effect all leaders are born. They are born with the foundational traits that leaders must possess. Second, leaders only become effective through experience or when taught the skills to be effective. This tends to lead to the opinion that effective leaders are both born and made. References Bock, W. (2006). Three Star Leadership. Chemical Physical Changes

Chemical Physical Changes Chemical and physical changes are related to chemical and physical properties. Chemical Changes Chemical changes take place at the molecular level. A chemical change produces a new substance.  Another way to think of it is that a chemical change accompanies a chemical reaction.  Examples of chemical changes include combustion (burning), cooking an egg, rusting of an iron pan, and mixing hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide to make salt and water. Physical Changes Physical changes are concerned with energy and states of matter. A physical change does not produce a new substance, although the starting and ending materials may look very different from each other. Changes in state or phase (melting, freezing, vaporization, condensation, sublimation) are physical changes. Examples of physical changes include crushing a can, melting an ice cube, and breaking a bottle. How to Tell Chemical Physical Changes Apart A chemical change makes a substance that wasnt there before. There may be clues that a chemical reaction took places, such as light, heat, color change, gas production, odor, or sound. The starting and ending materials of a physical change are the same, even though they may look different.

Innovative Ways to Teach Math

Innovative Ways to Teach Math Believe it or not, math can be taught in some very innovative ways, and private schools are some of the top educational institutions pioneering new ways to master a traditional subject. A case study in this unique approach to teaching math can be found at one of the top boarding schools in the US, the Phillips Exeter Academy. Years ago, teachers at Exeter developed a series of math books containing problems, techniques, and strategies that are now being used at other private day and boarding schools. This technique has become known as Exeter Math.   The Process of Exeter Math What makes Exeter Math truly innovative, is that the traditional classes and course progression of Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, etc., is done away with in favor of students learning the skills and computations necessary to solve problems. Every homework assignment contains elements of each traditional math course, rather than separating them out into segmented annual learning.  The math courses at Exeter are centered on the math problems  written by the teachers. The entire course is different from traditional math classes in that it is problem-centered rather than topic-centered. For many, the traditional middle or high school math class generally presents a topic within the class time with the teacher and then asks students to complete lengthy assignments at home that consist of repetitive problem-solving exercises, intended to help students better master the procedures for homework. However, the process is altered in Exeters math classes, which involve little direct instruction drills. Instead, students are given a small number of word problems to complete each night independently. There is little direct instruction about how to complete the problems, but there is a glossary to help students, and the problems tend to build on each other. The students direct the learning process themselves. Each night, students work on the problems, doing the best they can, and log their work. In these problems, the learning  process  is just as important as the answer, and teachers want to see all of the students’ work, even if it is done on their calculators. What If a Student Struggles With Math? Teachers suggest that if students are stuck on a problem, they make an educated guess and then check their work. They do this by making up an easier problem with the same principle as the given problem. Since Exeter is a boarding school, students can visit their teachers, other students, or the math help center if they are stuck while doing their homework in their dorms at night. They are expected to carry out 50 minutes of concentrated work per night and to work persistently, even if the work is very difficult for them. The next day, students bring their work to class where they discuss it in a seminar-like style around a Harkness table, an oval-shaped table that was designed at Exeter and is used in most of their classes to facilitate conversation. The idea is not to just present the right answer but for each student to have a turn presenting his or her work to facilitate conversation, share methods, work out problems, communicate about ideas, and support other students. What Is the Purpose of the Exeter Method? While traditional math courses emphasize rote learning that does not connect to everyday issues, the purpose of the Exeter word problems is to help students really understand math by working out the equations and algorithms themselves rather than just being given them. They also come to understand the applications of the problems. While this process can be very difficult, particularly for students new to the program, students learn traditional math areas such as algebra, geometry, and others by working out the ideas themselves. As a result, they really understand them and how they relate to mathematical issues and problems they could encounter outside of the classroom. Many private schools across the country are adopting the Exeter math class materials and procedures, particularly for honors math class. Teachers at schools using Exeter math state that the program helps students own their work and take responsibility for learning it- rather than simply having it handed to them. Perhaps the most important aspect of Exeter math is that it teaches students that being stuck on a problem is acceptable. Instead, students realize that it’s all right not to know the answers right away and that discovery and even frustration are in fact essential to real learning. Updated by Stacy Jagodowski.

BOOK SUMMARY ANALYSES - Essay Example Form creates expectations within the viewer because it presents a picture of an entire whole into which the various elements fit comfortably; as a result when a work of art is incomplete in some aspect for instance, it appears unbalanced. Viewer’s perception of form in a work of art arises from within the work and from prior experiences . Emotions represented in film also fall within the category of form because they determine how a viewer is likely to respond to the depiction of emotion in the work. A spectator’s emotional response is also elated to form, because it will enhance or detract from the viewer’s perception of the meaning of the work of art. Meaning is a vital element of form and is important for the experience of the entire work. Every work of art is attributed a deeper meaning or significance based upon the overall context within which the work of art occurs; for example the form in the film Wizard of Oz is attributed on the basis of the meaning of transition into adulthood itself. Overall form has the following components: (a) function, i.e, the role of the element in the overall system (b) similarity and repetition of individual motifs in the film (c) differences and variations of elements in the film (d) the development and/or progression of elements and (e) the unity or disunity among the elements. As a result, form may be summarized as the specific pattern of relationships which is perceived within an artwork. According to Beardwell and Thompson, narrative is the way that human beings make sense of the world. The narrative form of filmmaking tells a story and it is the most common kind of film narration format that is used. In essence, a narrative may be said to be a chain of events occurring in a cause-effect type of relationship over a period of time. The narrative form has three basic elements – causality, time and space. The narrative film format is like telling a story – it could be focused upon one

Economic Growth in US Spurred by New Innovative Technologies Essay

Economic Growth in US Spurred by New Innovative Technologies - Essay Example The essay "Economic Growth in US Spurred by New Innovative Technologies" talks about the last 30 years of the 19th century which was a time in the United States history that was defined by economic growth spurred by new innovative technologies. The greater overall levels of prosperity lead to a massive population growth in this country. For example, the city of New York had a population of 468,492 in 1869, twenty years later the population had grown to 1,093,701 inhabitants. The cities became overpopulated and there was a need to expand away from the cities into the suburban areas. Society was in need of more housing for the new residents that were entering the country either through immigration or through natural birth. The most influential factor that spurred the economy during this era was the construction industry. There were big changes during this era in the capability humans had to travel longer distances in shorter periods of time. New technological breakthroughs in transportat ion systems shorten the distances between rural areas and cities. Some of the key transportation technologies that appeared during this era were the cable street car, the electric trolley, and elevated railroads. With the ability to travel further distances the population and families were able to move away to intermediate regions between the city and rural space, thus the suburban neighborhood was born. At this time construction of homes picked up and enter into the middle class was defined by ownership of a home.

Child Exposure to Domestic Violence

Child Exposure to Domestic Violence Brutal conduct at home happens in opposite sex and same-sex relationships and private relations that may be married, living separately, or dating. Aggressive conduct at home impacts the people misused, and additionally generously influences relatives, partners, and those observing. Juveniles who grow up observing abuse conduct at home, are among those genuinely affected by this crime. Violence in the home does not simply slants youths to various social and physical issues, furthermore demonstrates to them that ruthlessness is a standard way of life. By result, enhances their risk of transforming into societys best in a class of setbacks and abusers (The United States Department of Justice, 2016). Domestic behavior in a household is known by various names; abuse in any type of relationship like marital violence or family abuse. Abusive behavior at home is not only one single conduct, yet rather it is viewed as physical, sexual as well as mental practices done by a present or former family member. Local abuse occurs amongst men and women consistently; yet generally, a woman will probably encounter physical wounds or physiological results than men. These damaging and unnerving practices are proposed to control and command the associate to accomplish submission from their accomplices and reliance (McIntosh, J., 2003). This paper will depict the video of Child Exposure to Domestic Violence and on the off chance it identifies individual abuse, property abuse or approach issues. It will cover the easygoing components that were tended in the video. The strategy suggestions or proposals that were given in the video to address abuse will also be discussed. Were the budgetary or monetar y issues talked about and what future ramifications were covered in the video will be determined. The significant of substance data, the fundamental components of the crime and criminological theories or speculations that best clarifies the event of the crime will be uncovered. The strategy issues that worries America today is the way many juveniles are being presented to aggressive behavior at home. Up to this point, many individuals did not comprehend the effect that the presentation of abusive behavior at home has on children. The substance of the video Child Exposure to Domestic Violence is viewed as an individual crime. Even though aggressive behavior at home is not seen as an individual, it has been seen as a strike. In the video, it was clarified the number of these children that are presented to abusive behavior at home. Juveniles, at 15 times higher velocity can feel depression versus a typical adult. It demonstrates how young children can be liable to traumatic play that causes push and can indicate disruption and unsettled conduct. Children who witness abusive behavior at home can hint at blame from the abuse and do not entirely understand why this is occurring. Analysts have confirmed that many youths episodes can regularly take after into their grown-up lives that may prompt to adult sadness (Hornor G, 2005). Guardians at times do not comprehend that abusive behavior at home can affect a childs life. One remarkable effect is that when a child is presented to aggressive behavior at home at an early age, it can influence their residential perception of the conclusions or that one may have on an individuals character. These occasions can impact an adolescent and the decisions they make later in life. The conduct that a significant portion of these children gets can have an effect on the way they act. Numerous young fellows can wind up getting to be distinctly fierce, and women can get to be distinctly abused. The look on life is changed, and occasionally the cycle proceeds when they get more established. Since commonly there was no assistance given to the family, a large portion of the children does not see that what is going on is not right so the kids may wind up following in the wrong bearing. One approach to change abusive behavior at home in the house was how to show authorities, instructors, advisors, specialists, companions, families on methods to perceive crime among our children. It additionally considered casualties and their kids to stand up and look for help. Many authorities are educated to make inquiries and search for signs amid private sessions or specialists visits. Courts and group associations can give administrations, for example, services to help advise the general population that there is an assistant. Numerous health specialist now offer psychological wellness administrations and directing; Local Social Service offices can assist by advising or help search for various work or instructive administrations. A large portion of these projects is state financed permitting many abused families to look for the help they require. Children that are presented to aggressive behavior at home are liable to turning into a casualty themselves. It is a social issue that influences many individuals in America. While large portions of these reactions are toward grown-up victims of abuse, the consideration has now moved toward the kids inside these homes. The physical and enthusiastic impact that abusive behavior at home has represents an issue to the children since they can turn out to be more helpless against their emotions. A portion of the violent problems that exist among kids are the dread of being separated from everyone else, rest unsettling influences, and turning out to be distant from their surroundings. Social Learning Theory of residential abuse clarifies that all through time, numerous speculations have been created to define human conduct. Gabriel Tarde, a French social scientist creation social learning theory was developed by Canadian scholar, Albert Bandura. The theory has proved to be influential when it comes to define the capability to learn and improve. His theory expresses that individuals are not conceived roughly they get to be distinctly brutal by watching and impersonating the conduct of another. This social learning theory is connected to household abuse since a significant part of the general population who abuse others are found out practices from their adolescence which is known as the observational learning (Schmalleger, 2012). A substantial part of our childrens actions is from many sources. The behavior of a juvenile has lot to do with the influence within their home, television programs they watch and the schools they attend. As soon as we change the framework to a positive structure for children to modify beginning with their home, standards or change in conduct will be observe. Numerous authorities suspect that these practices are hereditarily from inside. However, the reality of the situation is that a significant number of the general population who are victims or con artists are from broken homes who endured these sorts of practices. It will never be unmistakably comprehended why men abuse women. The risk that incorporates these kids is huge to the point that the problem will reliably be an issue until it is solved. Rock And Roll Essay -- essays research papers

â€Å"America. betaking herself to formative action(as it is about time for more solid achievement, and less windy promise), must , for her purpose, cease to recognize a theory of character grown of feudal aristocracies, or form’d by merely literary standards, or from any ultramarine, full-dress formulas of culture. polish, caste, &c., enough, and must sternly promulgate her new standard, yet old enough, and accepting the old, the perennial elements, and combining them into groups, unities, appropriate to the modern, the democratic, the west, and to the practical occasions and needs of our own cities, and of the agricultural regions.†1 Walt Whitman wrote this poem back in 1855. A hundred years before rock and roll was invented, people like Walt Whitman could sense that a change needed to happen in America. In the 1880’s, the Robber Barons had a dramatic impact on America. Some of them, such as Andrew Carnegie showed that people could rise from rags to riches. The 1920’s were called the Roaring 20’s, partly because people were carefree and willing to have fun. Jazz became the dominant form of music. Finally along comes the 1950’s. America has gotten out of WW2 and is now ready for a new evolution. People are feeling how they did back in the 20’s; carefree and willing to do anything for fun. On March 5, 1951, a rhythm-and-blues band, Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats, recorded â€Å"Rocket 88†, a frenetic, toe-tapping tribute to a customized car.2 This was the birth of Rock and Roll. The music didn’t catch on until 1955 though, when Bill Haley produced â€Å"Rock Around the Clock†. The song soared up the pop charts, and became the first rock and roll song to ever-hit number 1. From the music of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly, to Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, no other style of music has so greatly impacted the lifestyle of the American people.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Elvis Presley was the most recognized and the most influential rock and roll artist that ever lived. In 1956, Elvis made his way into the national spotlight with his single â€Å"Heartbreak Hotel†. He set in stone the image and sound of rock and roll that would endure as long as the music lived.3 With the swivel of his hips, the slur of his voice, and the curl of his lip, he evoked the force and feeling of youth and sex and the rebellion that would become the image of rock and roll. He also stamped ... ...sten to rap, sca, hip hop, etc., but our parents hate it. They are doing the same thing to us that their parents did to them in the 50’s. Even today, we are advancing. Dress styles that were banned 20 years ago are standard today. Music has influenced our lives from the very start. It is who we are. Rock and roll is a symbol of America. It is a national pastime. If it were not for Elvis Presely or Buddy Holly or Jerry Lee Lewis or any of the rock and roll artists of the 50’s, our grandparents and parents may not have realized the need for change and we would probably still be listening to jazz and opera all the time. A quote by Gilbert Ostrander tells how the younger generation of America always finds something new to latch onto. When they get bored with that, they move on to something else. â€Å"The younger generation is at all times simultaneously appearing on the field and moving off the field and trying to stay on the field while turning into something else. N o sooner have the rules of the game been officially explained by the younger generation, than another game is discovered to be in progress on the same field under different rules by a somewhat different younger generation.†19

Lessons Learned from Vietnam War

Introduction The Vietnam experience was a war that lasted for almost twenty years. The American military and leadership appear to have learned some lessons from our involvement in the Vietnam War. This paper will discuss the lessons learned from the following arenas: diplomatic negotiations, presidential leadership, and cultural/social contexts. Diplomatic Negotiations Princeton University (2006) defines diplomatic negotiations as between nations. The lesson learned by the Americans was the need to communicate with their enemy. Our military leaders and president, Lyndon Johnson, used bombing as â€Å"verbal† negotiations with Vietnam. Neither the Americans nor the Vietnamese were willing to compromise and enter into discussions. This refusal to enter into talks led to millions of deaths. The Vietnam War could have been avoided entirely or ended much sooner had the negotiations taken place. Presidential Leadership Presidential leadership styles vary from president to president along with their cabinet members. From Presidents Eisenhower to Nixon, each had their own style in how to handle negotiations and win the war in North Vietnam. Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy provided aid to South Vietnam in the form of military training. President Johnson sent aid to South Vietnam in the form of military troops. President Nixon negotiated the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam giving him â€Å"peace with honor† (Devry University, 2011). One of the best lessons that can be learned from our presidential leadership is that there is a need to admit mistakes. Although no one ever wants to admit when they are wrong, the public can be more forgiving when they are told the truth. America was losing the Vietnam War, but no president ever wanted to admit defeat nor did a president want to go all in. The Rules of Engagement were so restrictive that it made winning a war in Vietnam virtually impossible. Cultural/Social Context The Vietnam War brought about changes in how Americans felt about war. Americans were torn in their feelings about being involved in Vietnam. One of the lessons learned was that technology can be defeated by resourcefulness and determination. The American leaders felt that the war could be won through guns and bombs. They underestimated the will of the Vietnamese. They (government and military) leaders were ignorant of the Vietnamese culture. The Vietnamese were all in for the fight but the Americans were not. The Vietnamese fully believed in their cause but the American people were uncertain and later multiple protests were held across our country reflecting this uncertainty. Conclusion The experiences in Vietnam taught U. S. military and government leaders many lessons on diplomatic negotiations and the importance of learning the cultures of other countries. As a practical historian, I have learned the Vietnam War was not just a war that spanned a few years but many years. I have also learned that the war in Vietnam was not something any president wanted to have happen. However, once the war escaladed and American troops were sent over to Vietnam, the restrictions placed on them made it very difficult for soldiers to fight the war. Also, many men only enlisted for a year, leaving units discombobulated with experienced and â€Å"green† soldiers†. This made for a lack of cohesiveness within the unit. President Johnson never wanted to admit defeat. In the end, it cost him a chance at a second term as president. There is great value in studying past history. When we examine our history, we are able to see why things are done the way they are now. Studying history allows us to learn from our mistakes and change the direction or course that is taken the nest time. Military leaders and the government are not only able to review what worked and why, but also what failed and why. History of any subject is important because it teaches lessons learned. Nutrition & Fitness Paper Essay

Nutrition and Fitness play different roles in American’s lives. According to Healthy People 2010 54% of Americans are not regularly active, 15% are not active at all. Americans consume too many calories, often in the form of added sugars and fats, but too few vitamins and minerals, in part because the intake of fruits, vegetables, and milk products is relatively low. (Insel & Roth. 2008 p.367) There is a number of health risks associated with obesity. According to WebMD.com â€Å"Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem, it’s a health hazard. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as is an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions†. Some of the health risks that are associated with obesity include: Heart disease and stroke, High blood pressure, Diabetes, Cancer, Gallbladder disease and gallstones, Osteoarthritis, and Breathing problems, such as asthma. (WebMD.com). There are many ways that American’s can incorporate fitness and nutrition in their daily lives. This paper will discuss fitness and nutrition habits, and suggest new habits that will benefit your health and promote healthy weight. My current fitness and nutritional habits include many positive traits. For starters I always try to eat something nutritious every two to three hours each day, by doing this I continually eat healthy foods and I stay fuller longer reducing the chances of having fatty snack foods throughout the day. I try to remember to make sure that each of my meals contains lean protein, like some fish, turkey, or egg whites and the appropriate servings from the food pyramid. I love fruits so I try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables with each meal or as a snack in throughout the day. On occasions I have a high carbohydrate drink that is high in protein such as soy milk combined with a serving of a nutritional carbo snacks, usually within thirty minutes before a workout. I also try to regularly drink only non-calorie containing beverages, like water or sugar free water based drinks. I try to eat healthy fats on a daily basis, like almonds, nuts, fish, and flax seed oils. I know that I should obtain all of my carbohydrates from fresh fruits and vegetables, but sometimes have limited time to prepare these items due to my hectic schedule and I find myself taking easy shortcuts. In an attempt to better my fitness habits I will attempt to incorporate some  new fitness habits into my daily lifestyle. Three new fitness habits that I could reasonably incorporate into my lifestyle would include eating healthy breakfast, exercising first thing in the morning and obtaining my vitamins and nutrients through foods versus vitamin supplements. It is commonly said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day well this has always been a statement that is hard for me to live by. I often find myself rushing out the door to get my child off to school and make it to work on time without indulging in breakfast first. By the time I get around to having my morning meal it is nearly lunch time. My metabolism is running at the lowest gear of the entire day when I first wake up in the morning. My body is running on pure fumes alone. The second I eat something, my body cranks into gear and metabolically starts working at a higher rate. If I could make time to incorporate breakfast into my day my metabolism would kick into gear much sooner and I would have more energy which would result in an overall better day and a better workout. As with eating breakfast getting in a quick workout in the morning will jump start my metabolism for the day. Just quick ten or fifteen minutes of a workout in the morning will give me more energy and prepare me for my hectic day. The later in the day I work out the less likely I will be able to get to sleep on time. Overall I think exercising in the morning makes me feel healthier and gives me a better attitude. I have discovered that I need to try to get my vitamin and nutrients intake through my food supply rather then through supplements. Supplements only provide the vitamins and minerals listed on the bottle. But food supplies a lot more – antioxidants, phytochemicals that are beneficial to the body, and probably even things that scientists haven’t discovered yet. It’s also cheaper to get nutrients this way. A bottle of multivitamins may not be expensive, but if one was to factor in all the other things, such as antioxidants and essential fatty acids, the cost would be quite high. By obtaining my vitamins and nutrients through my food intake I will be receiving additional benefits. In conclusion, I understand that there are several habits that I need to change regarding my nutrition and fitness. I now realize that if I can make the three fitness and nutritional changes and incorporate them into my lifestyle I can greatly improve my nutrition and fitness. I also understand that I am putting myself at a higher risk of developing several health related problems if I do not make and attempt to better my nutritional habits. I hope that in the coming weeks that I can make the necessary changes to not only promote healthier nutrition and fitness habits, but overall health and wellness as well.
